In 25 years, I want your favorite photos as a couple to be from the day you met your baby.

What I see when I look at this photo: my husband’s broad, excited grin. The laugh lines at the corners of his eyes. The comfort of his arm cradling me. His other hand gentle on my shoulder. The pride in the way he touches his forehead to mine. I feel the relief on my face. You can’t see the fresh, wet baby girl in the towel, but I can feel her on my chest like it was yesterday.

Hi, I’m Regina Martin and I might not know much, but this is what I do know…

  • Birth is more than a physical, messy, medical event.

  • The act of giving birth can be powerful.

  • It can bring partners together in a way that they didn’t know was possible.

  • Birth can be more than a physical process that happens to you. If you’ll allow me to get a little woo-woo, I believe you are a powerful, enigmatic being that is capable of intense, magical creation.

  • Partners bring an incredible strength and awareness to the birth space, often more than they know.

  • Every pregnancy and birth experience gives you new tools for the parenting of this baby.

Regardless of what your birth looks like, the day you welcome your baby into your arms will change your perspective of yourself, of your partner, of your relationship forever.

Most moms have fuzzy memories of their baby’s birth because it’s hard, intense work, so my job is to bring the gift of sharp, vivid clarity to your memories of your partner’s supportive touch, your first excited reactions to meeting your baby, and your strength and grace through the entire process.

When I see those photos, I feel so strong and beautiful, which isn’t something I feel in my everyday life.
— Kelly M, Bismarck, ND Mom

The main thing I know is that you are stronger, more capable, more wise, and more knowledgeable than you think you are.

Here’s a little bit more about me…

Personally

My friends and family say I’m a good cook: I say the secret ingredient is always brown butter.

It is my opinion that the month of June in North Dakota is just the best. The best time in the best place.

I’m a farm girl from way back.

My four children are my greatest joy and my greatest test, turning me to face myself and holding me accountable every single day.

My favorite scents are coffee brewing, the acrid scents of diesel exhaust and corn silage (or haylage, baleage, ryelage, high-moisture corn, insert your fermented cattle feed of choice) in the morning.

Once upon a time, I ordered a latte with heavy cream and now I’ll never go back.

My husband drives a truck for a living, with the heart of a gardener, farmer, and visionary (this actually looks like lots of half-finished projects and hoarding anything that he might need “later.” 😂)

Three of our babies were born in our very own home, one was born in a hospital- if you want to hear those stories, I’d love to share.

My husband and I were both raised outside of mainstream society, so neither of us understand many pop culture references from the 90s and 2000s.

When he’s home and I’m not on-call, we love camping, hiking, and exploring new places with our kids.

When I’m not meeting with clients, photographing, teaching birth prep classes, or facilitating a local pregnancy & postpartum support group, I relax with books (Outlander and The Red Tent are a few of my favorites), TV (again, ahem, Outlander, because the wedding episode is *chef’s kiss*. Call The Midwife, and Downton Abbey, generally anything on the BBC are my picks), and crocheting.
